Bausch + Lomb Launches AMD Virtual Reality Experience at AOA, Enhances Product Portfolio, and Visits Capitol Hill

June 14, 2017

Dear Eye Care Professional,

I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of Bausch + Lomb and to update you on our ongoing efforts to continue to provide you and your patients with innovative eye and vision health solutions.

The first half of 2017 has been one of Bausch + Lomb’s busiest periods of innovation. Over the past several months, we’ve launched five new products from our Vision Care and Consumer Healthcare businesses. We also introduced three new contact lenses this year: Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Astigmatism and Biotrue® ONEday for Astigmatism contact lenses and the Zen™ RC scleral contact lens from our Specialty Vision Products business.

You and your patients can also for the first time recycle used contact lenses and blister packs through our Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program. To date, more than 180,000 units of used contact lenses and blister packs have been recycled through this program and over 1,800 optometry offices have signed up to take part in the program.

While it’s been an exciting first half, there’s much more to be done. As we look forward to the remainder of the year, and the upcoming American Optometric Association’s (AOA) annual meeting in Washington, DC, here’s what you can expect from us at the meeting, as well as a few other updates from the company.

Bringing AMD Virtual Reality, Contact Lens Innovations and Innovation Reception to AOA

Ever imagine what it would be like to actually see through your patients’ eyes? During the AOA meeting, we invite you to do just that in the Bausch + Lomb booth (#155). The AMD Virtual Experience will allow eye care professionals to experience the daily challenges this condition brings their patients with mild to more advanced stages of AMD.

While in the booth, we also invite AOA attendees to learn more about our innovative contact lens offerings, which now include the full family of monthly contact lenses for Bausch + Lomb ULTRA®, and Biotrue® ONEday, our daily disposable contact lenses. Since launching the astigmatism modality of these lenses earlier this year (read the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA® for Astigmatism announcement here and the Biotrue® ONEday for Astigmatism here) we’ve been receiving terrific feedback from eye care professionals who report that the lenses provide patients with great vision, comfort and stability.

We also invite you to attend our Innovation Review and Reception on Thursday, June 22 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in the Marquis Ballroom (901 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC) at 7:30 p.m. ET. During the event, we’ll showcase our latest technology innovations, demonstrate the science behind many of our products, and provide you the opportunity to learn and experience our company’s 164 year history. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with members of our team who are responsible for the development of our comprehensive product portfolio. You can click here to register.

Making Enhancements to our Product Portfolio

We’re continuously working to improve upon our existing products and services. Just last month, we announced the introduction of renu® Advanced Formula multi-purpose solution for soft and silicone hydrogel lenses, which combines three disinfectants and two surfactants to provide excellent lens cleaning and disinfection, in addition to all-day comfort. Thirty years ago, Bausch + Lomb was the first company to bring an “all-in-one” multi-purpose disinfection solution to the market with the launch of the renu® brand. We’re excited to add this new and improved formula to our solutions portfolio, which includes Biotrue® multi-purpose solution, the No. 1 multi-purpose solution brand in households that provides up to 20 hours of moisture for your patients.

Advocating for Patient Safety and Health on Capitol Hill

As you may know, Bausch + Lomb is a proud working member of the Coalition for Patient Vision Care Safety since it was first formed in August 2015. As part of this initiative, Bausch + Lomb was invited to participate as a panelist in a Senate briefing on Capitol Hill earlier this spring. During the briefing, our senior director of Professional Strategy, Jill Saxon, O.D., reinforced the importance of protecting and preserving vision, health, and safety of contact lens wearers, given current acquisition procedures and fulfillment of contact lens prescriptions, to the more than 65 attendees.

Dr. Saxon and our team, along with other members from the Coalition, continue to work with lawmakers to identify appropriate legislative pathways that will strengthen existing health and safety protections while preserving patient’s access points to contact lenses. We hope you join in on our cause, and the overall work of the Coalition, by continuing to educate your patients on the importance of safe and healthy wear and care of contact lenses. Every day, we come to work with the mission and focus to provide you with innovative technologies and resources to help you better serve your patients. This is only made possible by your continued support and valuable insights, which helps us to grow and advance our ability to offer the latest in eye care technology.

Should you have any questions, concerns or ideas to share at any time, please do not hesitate to feel free to reach out to me directly at, or to your sales representative. It’s your candid feedback and insights that help us deliver the customer service and technology that you deserve.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing many of you at AOA.
