Product Detail Information
Bausch & Lomb Soothe®XP Emollient (Lubricant) Eye Drops give your
patients rapid relief of dry eye symptoms that lasts up to 8 hours. Ordinary
lubricant eye drops simply provide moisture which can evaporate quickly from
the surface of the eye. Only SootheXP has Restoryl® , a special oil-based
emulsion that delivers moisture and the lipid replacements that help retain it
for up to 8 hours of relief. Because the outer lipid layer is oil-based,
moisture won't evaporate through.
Upon application, patients may experience momentarily blurred vision as
SootheXP eye drops seal in moisture.
This is the formulation previously owned and
marketed by Alimera Sciences.

Tear Film Lipids
Research has revealed a great deal about the tear film. The model of the tear film as a three-layer barrier that provides a smooth refracting surface, preventing evaporation is still essentially correct. But the components interact in many interesting ways, and each layer is tremendously more complex than once thought.

Title: Increased
Tear Film Lipid Layer Thickness With The Use Of
Two Novel Lubricant Eye Drops
Presented At: TFOS, November 2004
Purpose: Tear film lipid layer thickness (LLT) has been correlated to
the presence of dry eye symptoms. Two novel products, Soothe® and Systane®,
were studied to determine if a single drop of either product produce a
significant increase in LLT.
