Bausch + Lomb Announces the Availability of its Enhanced TRULIGN® Toric Intraocular Lens Calculator

Simplified and Interactive Tool Helps Surgeons Identify the Optimal IOL Selection for Patients

FOR RELEASE MONDAY, MAY 18, 2015

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company, announces today it has launched a number of enhancements to its TRULIGN® Toric intraocular lens (IOL) calculator, which is designed to allow surgeons to successfully select the appropriate IOL power range for cataract patients. The enhanced calculator will further streamline the TRULIGN Toric IOL fitting process by providing enhancements that make it easier-to-use, convenient and accessible for surgeons and technicians.

“As part of Bausch + Lomb’s continuous efforts to improve our product offerings, we are pleased to provide an enhancedTRULIGN Toric calculator that offers a more simplified and improved graphic interface for surgeons,” said Chuck Hess, vice president of marketing, Surgical, Bausch + Lomb. “On a routine basis, we work with eye care surgeons to discuss our current portfolio and identify ways we can make improvements to meet their needs. The improvements in the calculator were identified with the direction from surgeons and technicians around the country to further strengthen the tool’s ability to help surgeons successfully fit their patients with TRULIGN Toric IOLs.”

The TRULIGN Toric calculator is a tool which assists surgeons with TRULIGN Toric IOL selection by directly entering the patient’s flat (K1/axis) and steep (K2/axis) figures, including Surgically Induced Astigmatism (SIA), incision location, and IOL mean sphere power information. Directly following this step, the calculator provides the lens selection specifications including chosen mean sphere power, calculated IOL cylinder power, in addition to the full calculation summary including the pre-op corneal astigmatism, SIA, expected post-op corneal astigmatism, and residual astigmatism data.

In addition to providing a more easy-to-use and simplified design, the new enhancements will allow surgeons to immediately calculate the steep axis from the data entered in the flat axis section, perform concurrent bilateral calculations, and view the axis of placement located in the center of eye and the residual astigmatism clearly located in the eye diagram.

“Following the TRULIGN Toric IOL calculator has yielded the best results in my practice and I’ve found the majority of my patients end up with the initial lens selection,” said Farrell “Toby” Tyson, M.D., from Fort Myers, Fla. “As a routine user of the calculator and as someone who has implanted considerable amount of TRULIGN Toric IOLs, I was honored to work closely with Bausch + Lomb to offer suggestions and improvements to the calculator and I look forward to utilizing the enhancements as I plan each of my patient’s cataract cases moving forward.”

The TRULIGN Toric intraocular lens is the first and only toric IOL in the U.S. that corrects for astigmatism and has the additional capacity to deliver improved vision across a natural range of focus. The innovative TRULIGN Toric’s advanced aspheric optics p
