Smaller Diameter Lens Designed Specifically to Fit Regular Corneas
FOR RELEASE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2017
BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company, today announced that its Specialty Vision Products business has introduced the Zen™ RC Scleral Contact Lens, offering eye care professionals (ECPs) a lens that is specifically designed to fit normal corneas and features SmartCurve™ technology, which simplifies the fitting process by giving ECPs the ability to modify to the desired parameters.
“One of the primary issues in fitting patients with normal corneas is that excessive diameter and vault are unnecessary,” said David Bland, director, Specialty Vision Products, Bausch + Lomb. “Initial feedback on Zen™ RC has been great, as ECPs have noted the lens' enhanced design and found them easy to fit1. We are excited to introduce Zen™ RC to more ECPs in the coming months, offering them a scleral lens option that gives them control over the lens parameters that will work the best for their patients.”
The Zen™ RC scleral lens can be customized to nearly any parameter, though fitting within the standard parameters should be adequate for most patients. Toric peripheral curves, customized center thickness, flexure controlling profiles, and front toric Rxs can also be ordered when needed.
“It’s an exciting time for the advancement of scleral lenses, given that just ten years ago, there were only two options available,” said Michael Lipson, O.D., FAAO, FSLS. “Zen™ RC gives me the option to fit my patients with regular corneas in a scleral lens that provides simplified fitting and the ability to customize the fitting characteristics for each patient’s needs.”
Bausch + Lomb Specialty Vision Products is committed to furthering education and support, while fulfilling the growing needs of the gas permeable market by providing eye care professionals finished contact lenses for serious optical conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD), post-refractive surgery, and certain ocular surface diseases.
