Dr. Michael Pier Showcases Bausch & Lomb’s Ongoing Innovation by Discussing New SootheXP®, Ocuvite DF® and Alaway™ Products with Vision Care Industry Professionals
TAMPA, FLA. — Michael D. Pier, OD, FAAO, discussed Bausch & Lomb’s latest line of eye care products, including Soothe XP, Ocuvite DF and Alaway at today’s American Academy of Optometry (AAO) professional press conference.
Bausch & Lomb’s new products offer consumers the latest in eye care technology while addressing specific eye health concerns. The new Soothe XP eye drops offer relief for those who suffer from dry eye, Alaway antihistamine eye drops are designed to provide 12 hour itch relief for allergy sufferers and a new formulation of Ocuvite eye vitamins, called Ocuvite DF, provides the nutrients necessary to help support eye health for people with diabetes.
“As the eye health company dedicated to perfecting vision and enhancing life, Bausch & Lomb is committed to offering the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of eye health products,” said Dr. Pier. “Soothe, Ocuvite DF and Alaway are the latest additions to an exceptional product line composed of innovative vision care products.”
Dr. Pier is the director of optometric professional relations and practitioner education for Bausch & Lomb’s North American Vision Care division. He joined Bausch & Lomb in 1993 and has more than 29 years of clinical experience in optometric patient care.
The new Soothe, Ocuvite DF and Alaway products represent three distinct vision care lines offered by Bausch & Lomb:
• Alaway™ (ketotifen funarate ophthalmic solution antihistamine eye drops) is part of Bausch & Lomb’s line of redness and allergy relief eye drops designed for the estimated 50 million Americans who need relief from the symptoms of allergies. Alawayis indicated for up to 12 hours of relief for itchy eyes due to ragweed, pollen, grass, animal hair and dander. It is available over-the-counter and contains the same active ingredient and strength as Zaditor, the former prescription brand of ketotifen fumarate.
• Ocuvite DF joins Ocuvite Adult and Ocuvite Adult 50+ eye vitamin and mineral supplement formulations currently on the market, but is specifically formulated to help meet the eye health needs of diabetic patients. Ocuvite DF contains an antioxidant called genistein, which, in combination with other essential nutrients and antioxidants such as alpha-lipoic acid, combats free radicals and helps reduce oxidative stress commonly associated with diabetes*.
• Soothe® XP Emollient (Lubricant) Eye Drops provide moisture and contain Restoryl®, the advanced lipid restorative which provides a barrier to tear loss for relief that lasts up to eight hours. First introduced in 2004, Soothe — now renamed Soothe XP — was the first over-the-counter multi-dose, emollient-based (lubricating) artificial tear product, offering relief to an estimated 12 million Americans who suffer from dry eye. The Soothe XP formulation is unique in that it re-establishes the eye’s protective lipid layer, reducing tear evaporation and sealing in essential moisture.
The Soothe XP, Ocuvite DF and Alaway products are now widely available at retail stores across the United States. For more information, consumers can visit www.bausch.com.
