Bausch + Lomb and THERA°PEARL Partner to Market Innovative
Eye Mask Designed to Help Relieve Common Eye Ailments
Product to be Previewed with Retailers at National Association of Chain Drug Store Annual meeting
MADISON, NJ and JESSUP, MD – Bausch + Lomb, the global eye health company, and TheraPearl LLC, creators of doctor-designed THERA°PEARL® hot and cold packs, are teaming up to market the Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask, a new option for consumers suffering from a variety of common ailments, including the most common type of dry eye.
The Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask is pliable and reusable*, and features an elegant face-hugging design that stays in place without dripping or leaking. The convenient Eye Mask can be used for hot and cold therapy by chilling it in the freezer or refrigerator or heating it in the microwave. Unlike other hot or cold eye mask options, the Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask delivers consistent hot or cold therapy in the therapeutic temperature range for the doctor recommended period of treatment time (approximately 20 minutes at a time)**.
“Bausch + Lomb offers the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of eye health products and we are proud to partner with them to offer this innovative therapeutic solution,” says TheraPearl, LLC president Daniel Baumwald. “As a result of Bausch + Lomb’s support and our partnership, the Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask will soon be available to consumers all over the country who are actively seeking new and better alternatives for common symptoms such as dry eye.”
Affecting an estimated 25 million people in the United States, dry eye is among the most common conditions seen by eye care professionals, and its prevalence is increasing as the population ages. Common symptoms include blurred vision, sensitivity to light, eye fatigue, and a burning sensation. Dry eye occurs when not enough tears are produced, or when the tears are not the correct consistency and evaporate too quickly. Using a heated Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask can help loosen meibum, the oily secretion from the glands that line the eyelid and works to protect the eye’s tear film by preventing evaporation of tears. The Eye Mask also can be used to help alleviate symptoms such as puffy eyes, headaches, migraines, sinus discomfort, and swelling.
“Bausch + Lomb is committed to delivering effective over-the-counter solutions for consumers who are seeking symptomatic relief from some of the most common and bothersome eye conditions,” said Joe Gordon, general manager, Bausch + Lomb. “The Bausch + Lomb THERA°PEARL Eye Mask offers a convenient choice for people looking for both hot and cold eye care therapy that offers spa-like relief in an elegant and easy-to-use form.”
Bausch + Lomb expects to preview the product to U.S retailers at the upcoming NACDS Store Expo meeting and plans to make the Eye Mask available to consumers through their local retailers in January 2014.
