Bausch + Lomb Names Robert Steffen, O.D., M.S., Director of Clinical Affairs, Vision Care

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Bausch + Lomb announces the appointment of Robert Steffen, O.D., M.S., to director, Clinical Affairs, Vision Care. In his new role, Dr. Steffen will provide clinical support for new product development.

“As director of Clinical Affairs, Dr. Steffen will lead our global clinical research teams and work with a number of external partners to ensure rapid development of our lens and lens care products,” said Joseph T. Barr, vice president, Global Clinical & Medical Affairs and Professional Services, Vision Care. “Dr. Steffen and his team of optometrists will work with our research and development and marketing colleagues to bring insight-driven innovation to our eye care professional colleagues. His track record of innovation in the contact lens field, process improvement expertise with Bausch + Lomb R&D, rigor in clinical visual science and enthusiasm inspire his colleagues. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Steffen to our clinical and medical affairs team.”

Dr. Steffen joined Bausch + Lomb in 2007 as the director of Surgical Product Analysis. In this role, he was responsible for evaluating inline surgical products, including the identification of potential performance, regulatory and quality risks and opportunities, and the development and execution of solutions related to product evaluation.

Prior to joining Bausch + Lomb, Dr. Steffen spent 11 years at Vistakon, where he held several clinical research and managerial roles supporting product development. Dr. Steffen obtained his doctor of optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, where he also completed a master’s degree in Physiological Optics. He holds several patents relating to silicone hydrogel contact lenses, and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
