Bausch + Lomb Names Hideyuki Ashikaga
President of Bausch + Lomb Japan

TOKYO — Bausch + Lomb, the global eye health company, announces Hideyuki Ashikaga is appointed as president, Bausch + Lomb Japan, effective June 1, 2010.

Mr. Ashikaga will be responsible for leading Bausch + Lomb’s teams in Japan to reach new levels of excellence. In his new role, Mr. Ashikaga’s charges will cover a broad range of issues including marketing, commercial, legal and governmental affairs.

“Hideyuki brings with him over two decades of multi-functional and general management experience and a strong record of results in the health care industry,” said David Edwards, corporate vice president and president, Bausch + Lomb Asia Pacific. “I look forward to working together with Hideyuki as we continue to build strong teamwork and camaraderie across B+L.”

Mr. Ashikaga was most recently with the global medical technology company, Nippon Becton Dickinson Company, Ltd. (BD) (NYSE: BDX), where he served as business director of Pharmaceutical Systems and then as president of BD’s Japan subsidiary. Under his guidance, the organization was restructured, greatly improving profitability and focusing resources on the growth areas. Mr. Ashikaga was also responsible for growing revenue rapidly in BD’s pre-filled glass syringe business and leading new business launches, including cervical cancer screening system and infection prevention device products. Prior to Nippon Becton Dickinson Ltd., Mr. Ashikaga was marketing director of Johnson & Johnson’s (NYSE: JNJ) DePuy Orthopedics unit in Japan, where he was instrumental in launching a series of new products that revitalized its growth within two years of his appointment.

“Although the Japanese market is quite competitive, I am sure that there are still great growth opportunities and customer unmet needs. My mission is to further transform Bausch + Lomb Japan into a strong, broad-based eye health company with relentless focus on success,” said Mr. Ashikaga.

Mr. Ashikaga holds an M.B.A. from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Sophia University, Japan.
