New Multifocal Design Exclusively Available with Zenlens™ and Zen™ RC Scleral Lenses

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Jan. 22, 2019 – Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company, today announced the introduction of the Zen™ Multifocal scleral lens for Presbyopia, which will be exclusively available with Zenlens™ and Zen™ RC scleral lenses through the company’s Specialty Vision Products unit. This latest innovation will allow eye care professionals to fit presbyopic patients who have irregular and regular corneas, as well as those who suffer from ocular surface disease, such as dry eye, with ADD power ranges from +1.00 to +3.75 diopter (D) in 0.25D steps.

Building upon the Zenlens and Zen RC scleral lens technology, the new Zen multifocal scleral lens incorporates decentered optics, enabling the near power to be positioned over the visual axis. The multifocal design also offers variable near zones from 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm in 0.5 mm steps.

“The Zen Multifocal scleral lens was developed to address the unique vision needs of presbyopic patients,” said Jason Jedlicka, O.D., FAAO, FSLS, FCLSA, associate professor and director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Service, Indiana University School of Optometry. “By aligning the multifocal optics over the visual axis, which in soft multifocal contact lenses has been shown to provide patients with clear vision over near, intermediate and far distances1, the Zen Multifocal design is well-suited for a wide range of customized presbyopic lens wearers.”

With the Zen Multifocal design, eye care practitioners can continue using the current Zenlens or Zen RC diagnostic sets when fitting patients. The Zenlens and Zen RC are customized scleral lenses that were designed to meet the needs of specialty vision patients and eye care professionals fitting a wide variety of corneal shapes and sizes. Both lenses use SmartCurve™ technology, which allows eye care professionals to simplify fittings by modifying only the parameter they need.

“Bausch + Lomb is committed to driving innovation in the field of scleral lens technology.  We are pleased that eye care professionals can now offer their scleral lens patients with presbyopia a new option that incorporates the benefits of our Zenlens and Zen RC portfolio,” said John Ferris, general manager, U.S. Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb. “We value our collaborations with eye care professionals like Dr. Jedlicka, whose vision and continued guidance allow us to identify and engineer valuable advancements in our Vision Care portfolio.”
