DYMED® (polyaminopropyl biguanide) 0.0001%
DYMED® (polyaminopropyl biguanide) 0.0001% is the principle component for the antimicrobial action in ReNu MultiPlus® solution. There are several important structural features of DYMED which account for the high antimicrobial activity and low toxicity of ReNu MultiPlus Multi-Purpose Solution.
DYMED is a polymer with repeating units of biguanide groups. It first attacks and disrupts the acidic phospholipid groups in a microorganism’s cytoplasmic membrane. The repeating biguanide groups in DYMED are separated by six carbon chains, allowing a single DYMED molecule to interact with multiple acidic phospholipid groups. When the DYMED molecules attack and disrupt the cytoplasmic membrane’s acidic phospholipids groups, the membrane disintegrates and the microorganism’s cell components are released, resulting in death of the microorganism
